About Vanessa

I am a critical illness survivor. I am also a certified Speech-Language Pathologist, mom and wife. My name is Vanessa Abraham and here is my story.

My life took a complete and unexpected turn in 2019 when I experienced sudden onset paralysis and was unable to swallow even my own saliva. I went from working full time to being put on a ventilator within a weeks time. As someone who is trained to work with patients in the ICU, I never expected I would become a patient with both a physical and speech and swallowing disability on the receiving end of these services.

The pain, depression, fear and anxiety of both a physical and speech and swallowing disability and the fight to get my life back was something I never imagined.

Gradually, my body began to recover and I left the ICU, advanced to acute care, and then went to a rehabiliation center to “complete” my healing. When I was discharged, I still had a long way to go and began the gruel of outpatient therapy.

As a holistic-minded woman, I tried a variety of treatment approaches to heal from my neurological disorder that wouldn’t cause me further pain or even worse, a relapse. I knew my body would heal if given the right tools. Out of all the acclaimed treatment approaches I tried, none accelerated the healing process as I had hoped. I felt alone, depressed, hopeless and fearful that this would be my forever.

Finally, after 3 years, I had a breakthrough. I was introduced by my trainer to the NEUBIE device as part of my rehabilitation training. Within a few sessions I was able to move my body in ways that it hadn’t moved since my illness. The pain I was experiencing became less and my gym workouts became more productive and was able to lift more weight. My body started to transform faster than I had seen with other treatment approaches. I felt my life coming back and for the first time in years I was able to look to the future and feel hopeful.

My Breakthrough

Traditional forms of therapy do not address nervous system in the same way as the NEUBIE does

I wondered…

What if I could help others recover?

I could see the potential of the NEUBIE and how the process of tapping into the nervous system could support systemic recovery and help with a wider variety of disorders such as aphasia, concussions, swallowing difficulties, and voicing disorders caused by traumatic brain injuries and strokes.

What if I could share the gains I thought were long gone?

I would lay in bed at night wondering how the device could help my school students with other neurological disorders such as Autism, fluency, and ADHD to name a few. I wanted others to experience the rapid gains that I was seeing in myself.

What if I could give others hope too?

I didn’t want another person to live with the pain, despair and depression over a communication disorder as I was feeling so I bought a NEUBIE device and immediately took a variety of training courses to better understand the effects of neuroplasticity on training the body.

To date, I am proud to say that I have taken the following courses:

  • Level 1 & 2 Certified
  • Fitness Course
  • Multiple Sclerosis Course
  • Neufit Athletic Performance Course
  • Neufit Hypertrophy Course
  • Pelvic Floor Course
  • Neufit for Neurological populations

This is just a start.
